A miner and father of 30 children became a billionaire overnight in Tanzania after she unearthed two huge chunks of precious stones, one of the world’s rarest gems worth $ 3.35 million.
The father of 30 identified as Saniniu Laizer received a check for 7.74 billion Tanzanian shillings ($ 3.35 million) for the two dark violet blue stones he unearthed during a trade event in the northern region of Manyara on Wednesday, June 24.
The gemstones he recovered are one of the rarest gems in the world and weighed 9.2kg and 5.8kg in the north of the country last week.
Laizer, who has four wives and 30 children, promised to use some of the money to build a school and shopping center in her community, where many parents cannot afford to pay for their children’s education.
Laizer was also congratulated live on television during the presentation of his check by President John Magufuli.
“This is a confirmation that Tanzania is rich,” Magufuli told mineral minister Doto Biteko.
