In an interview with Variety, Miley Cyrus said she has been sober for the past six months. The singer talked about initially abstaining from substances after major vocal surgery in November and continuing with lifestyle choices after learning about substance use disorder and other mental illnesses in her family.
“I’ve been sober for the past six months. At first, it was about this vocal surgery. … But I had been thinking about my mother a lot. My mother was adopted and I inherited some of the feelings she had, the feelings of abandonment and the desire to show that you are loved and valuable, “Miley told Variety. “My father’s parents divorced when he was 3 years old, so my father grew up. I did a lot of family history, that he has a lot of addiction and mental health problems. So, just going over that and asking:” Why am I like am? “By understanding the past, we understand the present and the future much more clearly. I think therapy is great.”
While she stopped using substances, Miley made one thing very clear: Being sober doesn’t mean it’s not fun. The singer said there is a misconception that people who are sober at a young age are not having a good time.
“It is really difficult because especially when you are young, there is a stigma of ‘you are not fun,'” he said. “It’s like,” Honey, you can call me a lot of things, but I know I’m fun. “
Instead of having substances to have a good time, Miley notes that she can count on having fun without drinking or using drugs. She also said that she enjoys another great advantage of being sober: no hangovers or substance-induced haze the next day.
“What I love is waking up 100%, 100% of the time,” she said. “I don’t want to wake up dizzy. I want to wake up feeling ready.”
This is not the first time that Miley has stopped using substances. In 2017, she talked about quitting marijuana. At that time, she also made reference to the clarity she experiences when she is sober.
“I want to be super clear and sharp, because I know exactly where I want to be,” he said at the time.
As Miley said, it can be difficult for anyone, but especially young people, to be sober. So congratulations on doing what makes you feel better.
